My name is Janet Scott, and I am working with Brave Tomorrow Counseling and Consulting. Building a therapeutic relationship with someone is a privilege and honor. I believe everyone has a beautiful story to share, and I appreciate you for starting the process to allow me to be a part of your story.
To give you a little bit of my story: I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for the state of Georgia. I began my clinical work with Pineland Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) in 2011 as a master’s level clinician. In 2012, I began managing Pineland BHDD’s I.M.P.A.C.T Clubhouse, who serves adolescents and transition-aged youth in Bulloch County and surrounding communities. At I.M.P.A.C.T, I was the program manager, managing both the Co-Occurring Disorder Clubhouse and the SA Recovery Support Clubhouse. I am also a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) through ADACBGA and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). I am also working on obtaining my Registered Play Therapy (RPT) and Registered Play Therapy- Supervisor (RPT-S) certifications as well.
I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and my Bachelor of Science in Child in Family Development. I began my career as a teacher at the Child Development Center at Georgia Southern University. After teaching at the Child Development Center for six years, I began my counseling career at Pineland BHDD. During my years of teaching, I obtained my Master’s of Education in School Psychology (in 2009), and my Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (in 2017), both from Georgia Southern University. I believe learning is a lifelong process; therefore, I have become a member of many associations, and continue to renew these professional affiliations yearly. These affiliations include: the American Counseling Association (ACA), ), the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia (ADACBGA), and the South Georgia Association for Play Therapy, along with the National Association for Play Therapy.
Personally and professionally, counseling and education are two of my personal passions. I have had the pleasure of building my career around both! I enjoy working with a variety of clients in a multitude of settings. Because of this desire, I became the founder of Creative Courage, Inc. in 2018. This has allowed me to continue teaching, consultation, and counseling in the community in several locations. Teaching best practices is an important role that I enjoy fulfilling. I have presented at a variety of state and National conferences which include: The Georgia School of Addiction Studies in Savannah, The Behavioral Health Symposium at Lake Lanier, The System of Care Academy in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and The University of Maryland Baltimore Training Institutes in Washington, DC.
Being an advocate and ally to those in Bulloch County and surrounding areas is another passion of mine. It is important for those coping with mental health and addictions to feel safe and holistically well in their own lives and in their community. In service of this goal, I have worked diligently over the past six years to help plan and create numerous community events that help promote holistic wellness while reducing stigma, including the annual Recovery in the Park event held every September.
While seeing clients at Brave Tomorrow Counseling and Consulting, I enjoy engaging clients of all ages in experiential activities and traditional talk therapies. I am confident and comfortable with my abilities in working with all ages. I believe empathy and unconditional positive regard for my clients gives me the ability to meet my clients where they are at in their life. I enjoy seeing clients reach the goals they set, and share their worlds in the positive atmosphere that Brave Tomorrow has to offer.
